Lego Robotics

This year First Lego League Challenge theme is "Climate Connections". On November 17, 2008 the members of the "Jedi Knights" Lego Robotics Team from Portland visited the TAFCC in Corvallis to learn about forest adaptation to climate change.
We spent wonderful three hours presenting various impacts of climate change on forests and exploring ways to adapt forests to projected changes in climate. "Jedi Knights" have learnt about interactions between climate change, insects and fire, and what foresters can do to prepare for climate change using silvicultural tools and genetics. The visit was an enlightening experience for all of us.
The "Jedi Knights" team won the Championship in the qualifying tournament! At the state level they won the 2nd place for the Young Team Awards (under 11 yrs) for their presentation "Climate change and how it affects Oregon Forest - Forest Fires in particular". Congratulations!
